The assignment...

This blog is to act as a record of my progress throughout the unit. It's almost like a research workbook but then it is for everyone to see! The unit requires us to work in groups to create and hold our own exhibition - while developing organisation and management skills. The work we will end up displaying is part of a different unit called "Documentary Practices", in this unit we have to create a series of photographs of our interpretation of the theme territory.

As no one in our group is quite sure what kind of photographs we want to display, it has been a tricky start. Deciding on the venue, the publicity and how we want to exhibit our work is a difficult decision, and therefore this week is just for thinking of ideas. The image to the right, is a mind map of what we have been talking about. We are all looking at different venues, as well as contacting them, to get an idea of what we are able to achieve.


Every venue has its positives and negatives and this has been an important conversation on the facebook group we have created. Some say that a pub will be a brilliant plan because it has both an indoor and outdoor area, it will guarantee an audience and everyone loves going to the pub! However, the photo on the left shows some negative aspects of exhibiting in a pub.

We have also started looking into abandoned buildings and whether we should exhibit there. We have managed to find an building on commercial road that is currently empty. Another place we have found is on Albert Road (picture right). It looks like a small open area with white walls and a wooden floor. It also has two doors that lead further into the building. Perhaps this location would be worth phoning! It has large window in which we could exhibit some work for people passing by to look at. This could spark their interest and they might come in.

As well as looking at rather obvious places to display our work I also wanted to look at different ideas that might be more expensive but would definitely be worth it. First I decided to look at the spinnaker tower. Apparently it is quite a popular venue to hire for corporate or private events:

Welcome to my new blog. As you might know, I'm a photography student at the University of Portsmouth. This blog is dedicated to one of my projects but if it becomes successful, I will continue updating you on my work. I hope you enjoy the posts to come and feel free to ask any questions.
